Louis Mercier
Candidate for National Finance Chair
Born and raised in Montréal, now living in Vancouver, Louis brings a bilingual, coast-to-coast perspective and real grassroots experience to the Young Liberals of Canada. As President of the UBC Young Liberals, he revitalized the club, more than tripled active membership, rebuilt its online presence, and expanded the executive so younger members could develop leadership alongside upper-year mentors. During the 2025 election, he ensured young Liberals were active on the ground, contributing to wins for Jake Sawatzky, Gregor Robertson, Wade Grant, and others. He also provided policy advice on official languages for the 2025 platform. He has been involved in the 2024 B.C. and 2022 Quebec provincial elections.
Outside politics, Louis works in government relations and public relations. He advises organizations that range from multi-billion dollar companies in finance, insurance, transportation, manufacturing, and natural resources to school boards, NGOs, and non-profits. In the past, he served as National Coordinator of Professional Services for one of Canada’s largest pharmaceutical manufacturers.
A proud Francophone, he advocates for resilient minority-language communities across the country. He advises the Vancouver Francophone Chamber of Commerce on a pro bono basis. He also served in the first-ever Youth Climate Assembly worldwide, helping inform the federal government on how young people want Canada to meet its climate goals. He believes Canadian leadership on the international stage is needed to move the needle on climate change, affordable housing, intergenerational equity, and Arctic defence.
Louis is in his final year of his undergraduate degree in International Relations at UBC, focusing on public policy and international development. He is running for National Finance Chair because he knows that having the proactive financial support of the party and the YLC national executive is often a dealbreaker for the success of a young liberal community, and he knows his experience and dedication can help deliver that. He will bring a proactive, disciplined approach to help campus clubs across the country grow, be more inclusive and be able to focus on broadening the liberal tent to include more young people.
